Time is running out for UK charities and community groups that tackle
poverty and promote social justice to grab a £10,000 prize.

Entries to this year’s Centre for Social Justice Awards have to be
submitted by 17 March.

The contest is organised by the Centre for Social Justice, a
right-of-centre think-tank established by former Conservative Party
leader Iain Duncan Smith.

The awards – now into their fifth year – aim to celebrate the
achievements of grassroots groups working to tackle injustice and can
offer a financial reward to help them continue their important work.

Open to entries from charities and voluntary organisations across the
UK, successful groups will be expected to demonstrate their work is:

    * People focused.
    * Tackling causes of poverty as well as the symptoms.
    * Practical.
    * Entrepreneurial.
    * Driven by conviction.
    * Motivated by compassion.

Interested entrants are asked to describe, in no more than 500 words,
how their group makes an “exceptional” contribution to tackling
poverty and advancing social justice.

Bids must be made by 17 March 2009 – a panel of judges including
former winner of hit TV-show The Apprentice Tim Campbell, Camila
Batmanghelidjh of Kids Company, and Labour MP Frank Field will choose
the overall winners, who will receive their prizes at a gala dinner to
be held on 1 July.
