Are you taking full advantage of the opportunities offered by new
technology to support Europe's ageing population?

e-Inclusion is still a top priority in the current economic downturn.
Developing an inclusive knowledge economy could be the key to building
a brighter economic future as well as addressing social issues. As a
result, the digital needs of the Ageing Population remains a top
priority for the European Commission (EC).

Europe's ageing population is a challenge for the job market, and its
social and health systems. But it is also an economic and social
opportunity. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can
provide new and more accessible products and services that meet the
needs of older people.

ICT will increasingly allow older people to stay active and productive
for longer; to continue to engage in society with more accessible
online services; and to enjoy a healthier and higher quality of life
for longer.

The majority of older people do not yet enjoy the benefits of the
digital age - low cost communications and online services that could
support some of their real needs - since only 10% use the internet.
Severe vision, hearing or dexterity problems, frustrate many older
peoples' efforts (21% of the over 50s) to engage in the information
society.

Find out how technology is being used to support older people either
through short videos and podcasts
(http://www.citizensonline.org.uk/e-inclusionawards_eu/resources/elders),
or case studies. We also have toolkits
(http://www.citizensonline.org.uk/e-inclusionawards_eu/resources/learning)
that may help you if you are working with older people.

about the EC's Action Plan which aims to break down barriers to ICT
use.
