Dear Gary and all
As far as we are aware there is likely to be quick(ish) legislation to
allow the extension of community radio licences, so that stations that
came on air in late 2005 and 2006 are not disadvantaged in their
business planning. As you know, the DCMS consultation closed yesterday
and there will be fast work top collate responses and deliver the
government's reply, prior to proposed legislative changes.
Of course the station would need to demonstrate it has met its Key
Commitments and could sustain the service in the next licence period.
In which case hopefully Skyline and the rest of you would not lose out
in e.g. paying PPL, as you would apply for a licence extension (NB don't
try yet as the rules are not in place)...
We have been trying to persuade PPL etc to allow the community radio
sector to pay in instalments, will keep you posted.
Best wishes
Jaqui
