[cma-l] advertising rates reference

Whilst I totally agree that the sector needs a central point for  
commercial sales I don't think it's right for the CMA to do this. The  
CMA should be there to impartially present our case to government ,  
funders and regulators. This way it can represent all our interests  
fairly. Commercial sales isn't something every station engages in,  
some don't want to and some aren't allowed. If we are to have a  
national sales house it needs to be independent of the CMA, even if  
it's allied like canstream. The key question here though is what we  
want from it? Do we want ads? sponsored features that are made for us  
(e.g weekly DIY features sponsored by B&Q) or do we want nationally  
syndicated programming? This is how student radio once had national ad  
money via a live satellite channel. This ultimately failed but there  
is no saying it can't work here. But it's not for us to insist the CMA  
does it but rather seeing if someone has the skill to start something?
