Hi Julian,
Bad news this...it seems like another example of local authority not
seeing the enormous value that your aerial is bringing to the local
community!
Here at Salford, our antenna sits on the town hall roof, next to Orange,
Vodafone and O2 mobile phone masts. They cost £30,000 per annum, ours is
a quid a year.
I really wish local authorities would take Salford's lead, and get
behind community radio, rather than provide even more hurdles! It makes
my flipping blood boil, and I feel for you...having suffered an absurdly
thick local authority with my last station - a superb community radio
station that collapsed because the LA offered zero support - in spite of
its incredible success in a rural area.
Hazel Blears, the Salford MP and Secretary of state for communities and
local government is about to start a weekly show on Salford City Radio
(after the conference) and I really hope that this commitment to
community radio from a cabinet minister will have a resounding impact on
thick councils, such as yours!
If you want full details of our agreement, and proof of our £1 per annum
agreement to show them, just let me know.
Good luck Julian!
Kindest Regards
Steve Suttie
