Hi There,

After Ofcom's decision not to award a community radio licence to Radio
Fyneside earlier this year, the Scottish Community Foundation's award is
a most welcome endorsement of our project and aims.

Thanks, Charles

PRESS RELEASE

--- // Radio Fyneside Awarded £50,000 //---

The Scottish Community Foundation has awarded Radio Fyneside £50,000 for
a two year project that will see people of all ages from twelve
communities across Argyll get together to learn to put their communities
on the map.

Each community will be loaned all the equipment they need to put their
new skills into practice. They’ll make video shorts and share them
online. They’ll make four fifteen minute radio programmes about their
community that will be broadcast online. They’ll be given an
individualised Blog for their community, keep it going and add comments
to other communities’ Blogs. Individuals and communities who get
interested in using these skills and facilities to develop enterprises
of their own will be supported by us to do that. Radio Fyneside will
provide ongoing training and work experience for volunteers and will
advise and help communities in new initiatives to use today’s
communications in enterprising ways.

The project wants to see Argyll’s communities with new resources and the
skills to use them to their advantage, making and developing contacts
with each other, learning about and hearing each other, seeing each
other’s places and people without leaving home.

Professor John Patrick, Chair of the Company’s Board, said: ‘We are very
grateful to the Scottish Community Foundation for this vote of
confidence in giving us one of only eight awards made from an original
field of over two hundred applications to their new Communities
Investment programme. The award is for the maximum amount available. We
intend this to be a major collaborative adventure for everyone involved
and a rewarding project for the Scottish Community Foundation to support.’
