LSC Getting Ready to Launch their ESF Objective 3 Co-financing Plans 
(England)

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC), which has responsibility for post 
16 education in England, is getting ready for the implementation of its 
co-financing arrangements under the European Social Fund (ESF) Objective 
3 (2007 - 13). ESF Objective 3 is a £2.9 billion programme that will 
fund activities which contribute to sustainable economic growth and 
social inclusion by extending employment opportunities and by developing 
a skilled and adaptable workforce. A significant proportion of the 
funding will be made available through the regional offices of the 
Learning and Skills Council. Each regional office will develop and 
implement regional co-financing plans which will specify the activities 
for which funding will be made available during the lifetime of the 
programme. It is anticipated that the first bidding rounds will open in

Broadcast Development Awards (UK)

The Wellcome Trust, which is an independent charity funding research to 
improve animal and human health has announced that it is seeking 
applications under its Broadcast Development Awards scheme. Under this 
scheme, awards of up to £10,000 are available to support early stage TV, 
radio or new media projects that actively engages audiences with issues 
around biomedical science in an innovative, entertaining and accessible 
way. The scheme is open to broadcast professionals and other 
organisations or individuals working on broadcast projects. Partnership 
between broadcasters and other professionals such as scientists, 
ethicists, educators etc are especially welcomed. In 2007, there will be 
two deadlines for broadcast development awards: the 28th September and 
the 15th November. Decisions will be made approximately two months after 
the deadline..

Call for Proposals to Support European Audiovisual Festivals (UK)

The European Commission has issued its latest call for proposals under 
its Media programme. MEDIA is a support programme of the European Union 
to strengthen the competitiveness of the European film, TV and new media 
industries and to increase the international circulation of European 
audiovisual product. The specific focus of this call is to support the 
implementation of audio festivals that facilitate and encourage the 
promotion of European audiovisual and cinema works and the networking of 
professionals. The maximum amount available under this call for 
proposals ?2 500 000 and the financial support from the Commission 
cannot exceed 50 % of the total eligible costs. The closing dates for 
submitting proposals is the 15th October 2007 for projects starting 
between 1st May 2008 and 31st October 2008 and the 30th April 2008 for 
projects starting between 1st November 2008 and 30th April 2009..

Illuminate Social Enterprises Programme (West Midlands)

The West Midlands Social Enterprise Network has announced that it is 
seeking applications under its Illuminate Social Enterprises Programme. 
A total of £117,000 is available in 2007 - 08 to support projects raise 
the profile of the sector and tap into its unrealised potential by 
highlighting good practice, its contribution to the regional economy and 
promoting it as an option for those seeking to go into business, develop 
new projects, or explore options to generate income for their voluntary 
organisations. Eligible applicants can include partnerships, networks 
and consortia in the West Midlands consisting of social enterprises, 
support agencies, and organisations with a strategic or policy remit 
around social enterprise. Although maximum or minimum levels of grant 
have not been set, as a general guideline we would expect most grant 
awards will be in region of £3,000 - £5,000. The closing date for 
applications is the 31st January 2008..

Last Call for Applications under the Bill of Right Programme (Northern 
Ireland)

Small Grants of up to £10,000 are still available for local community 
groups to get involved in issues and debates around what should be 
covered in a Bill of Rights. To be eligible for funding, projects need 
to animate interest within local communities for a Bill of Rights for 
Northern Ireland; maximise the involvement of local community groups and 
communities of interest in the formulation of that Bill of Rights; 
increase awareness and commitment to the concept of human rights in 
local communities; and develop and promote a rights based approach to 
peace building in local communities. Grants awarded will range from 
£1,000 up to £15,000 and the closing date for applications is the 28th 
September 2007..

What's the Big Deal (Northern Ireland)

The Big Lottery Fund has announced that applications to its Young 
People's Fund - The Big Deal small grants programme will be accepted 
from the 6th September 2007 onwards. Under the Big Deal, individuals and 
groups of children and young people will be able to apply for grants of 
between £500 and £2,500 to encourage children and young people (aged 0 - 
25) to become involved in activities which enhance their personal and 
social development and to have the skills, knowledge and opportunities 
to make informed choices about their lives and demonstrate their 
positive contribution to family and community life. The total funding 
available under this programme is £1 million and applications can be 
made at any time up until the 30th September 2009..

Funding for Projects that Support Marginalised Young People (UK)

The Camelot Foundation has announced the latest application round of the 
Transforming Lives programme. The programme supports new approaches and 
creative ideas for re-connecting marginalised young people (aged 11 to 
25) to the mainstream of UK life. The priority groups targeted through 
this programme are; young parents or those at risk of becoming young 
parents; young exiles, newly arrived in the UK; young people with mental 
health problems; and young disabled people. Each application round of 
this programmes focuses upon a different theme. The theme for this round 
is to support projects that work with the most marginalised young 
people, within the priority groups, in the following UK locations; 
Cornwall; Wales; Northern Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of 
Scotland. Eligible organisations that can apply for funding must work in 
the regions specified and with young people, aged 11-25; be a registered 
charity (if a consortium, the lead agency must be a registered charity); 
have unrestricted reserves of less than 6 months running costs; be 
committed to working in genuine partnerships; and have an annual 
turnover of less then £1million. It is envisaged that the Trustees will 
make between 3 and 5 grants of between £40,000 and £80,000 and the 
application deadline for this round of funding is Friday 12th October 
2007 at 5pm..

New SITA Trust Application Deadlines Published (UK)

The Sita Trust, which provides funding to community and environmental 
projects through the Landfill Communities Fund (formerly the Landfill 
Tax Credit Scheme), has announced the application deadlines for 2008. 
The Sita Trust provides funding to not for profit organisations, 
community groups, parish councils, Local Authorities and charities 
through a number of different grant programmes. These include the 
Enhancing Communities Programme, which support community improvement 
projects. The Enriching Nature Programme which supports wildlife 
projects. GreenPrints which supports greenspace improvement projects 
carried out by young people aged 16-25. To be eligible projects must be 
located within 10 miles of a Sita operated Landfill site. Previous 
projects supported by the Trust include the restoration and management 
of valuable heathland, projects demonstrating a more sustainable way of 
living and the renovation of a disused buildings for community use..
