Fwd:

The Roots project in London (a partnership between Arts Council England
and BBC English Regions) has launched a new filmmaking competition in
association with BBC New Talent and BBC London. We're looking for 10
aspiring filmmakers with creative and surprising Untold London stories.
These need to be factual ideas but can incorporate the arts, (spoken
word, dance, music etc). We will work with the 10 finalists over 2-3
weeks to then produce their story for BBC London news. We are
particularly keen to target applicants that are currently
under-represented in the sector. The details are in the attached PDF and
below. Please forward to your various contacts, websites, e-lists etc.
If you require some physical flyers for display, please
give me a ring on 020 7208 9663.

Roots also sends out a monthly e-bulletin about events, opportunities
and jobs which you might find useful to receive. It is particularly
about culturally diverse arts. If you'd like to subscribe, please send a
blank email to rootslondon at bbc.co.uk with 'subscribe' in the subject.

CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF AS A CREATIVE FILMMAKER?

DO YOU HAVE A UNIQUE LONDON STORY THAT HASN'T BEEN TOLD?

HOW WOULD YOU TELL IT IN 2 MINUTES?

If you'd like to turn your idea about the Capital - its people, sights
and sounds - into a short film, then we want to hear from you. You don't
need to have lots of experience, but you do need a proven interest in
filmmaking and know a good story when you see one.

We're interested in stories about all walks of life in London, from its
various communities to the things that go unnoticed in the city. We're
also interested in how you would want your film to look and feel.

WHAT'S ON OFFER?
Working closely with you, we will turn 10 new, never-told-before tales
from the capital into two-minute documentary films which will be
broadcast on BBC London News later this year. Ten finalists will receive
hands-on training over 2-3 weeks to develop and direct their London
story. You will be working with a team of BBC London journalists,
producers, camera people and editors. You will also have the opportunity
to attend a film masterclass later in the year.

Your story idea must be factual, original and visually exciting. This is
not an initiative aimed at drama - the stories must be based on real
life. To enter, you must be over 18 and either living or working in
London. We particularly welcome applicants from communities that are
under-represented in the media.

HOW TO ENTER
Go to _www.bbc.co.uk/london/untold_ <file://www.bbc.co.uk/london/untold>
where you can enter online or download a word application form. Or you
can call 08700 10 60 60 and an entry form will be posted to you.

Closing date 1st July 2005.

If you are posting your application, send it to: Shehani Fernando, BBC
London, 35 Marylebone High Street, London W1U 4QA
