The Royal Society, 6-9 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1

‘Kids Media – a Cultural Force or a Commercial Cash Cow’

The 11th annual conference of the VLV Forum for Children’s Broadcasting

Children’s broadcasting is changing fast. But are the needs and interests of
children and society being adequately provided for in today’s multi-channel
and digital media landscape? Or are children increasingly at risk from a
media landscape dominated by the commercial imperatives of advertising and
profit?

speakers confirmed include:

Alison Sharman, Head of CBBC
Estelle Hughes, Head of CITV
Professor Al Aynsley-Green, Children’s Commissioner for England
Jonathan Drori, Head of Culture Online, DCMS

Key sessions will include:

Watching the Box – the latest research on what children are really watching
and how multi-channel television is affecting programmes, viewing and
budgets

The Missing Programmes – why are there so few programmes for teenagers and
why are genres including factual and arts increasingly missing from the
schedules?

What's so Great about Television? - we ask key players in broadband,
interactive games
and digital radio whether new technologies are better than television at
providing children with education and information

The Way Ahead – in an increasingly market driven broadcasting environment,
how can those concerned about the quality of children’s broadcasting help
shape the future?

Delegate Rates:  Corporates: £112,  Charities/Voluntary Organisations, £60;
Academics/Individuals £50, Students £19 (all prices inclusive of VAT)
