Community Channel appeal hits £1m
21 January 2005 10:11
Charity TV service The Community Channel said today it had has raised
over £1m for the tsunami disaster appeal through its interactive
donation service.
The channel, backed by the Media Trust, said tens of thousands of
viewers had responded since the service launched on 29 December.
Sky, Channel 4, BBC, UKTV and Discovery all made the service available
on their channels.
Community Channel Interactive TV Editor, Sinéad Hughes, said, "This is
a great example of how other broadcasters can work with the Community
Channel on really worthwhile projects. This really was the coming of
age for interactive TV as a responsive and targeted method of emergency
fundraising."
The Home Office Volunteering and Charitable Giving Unit funds the
interactive TV facility and Sky donates the capacity to broadcast it.
