Volunteers from Preston FM are to take the community radio station on
tour over the summer months, thanks to a grant from the Media Trust.

The project, called 12 Weeks of Summer, will see the station visit six
different venues in and around Preston broadcasting from each location
for two weeks each.

The station wants local people to get involved by taking part in live
programmes, having a go at special presenting and DJing “taster”
workshops and working with the Preston FM volunteer team to produce
their own show.

Richard Lace, project manager at Preston FM, said: “Our summer tour is
going to give us the chance to get out and talk to even more
Prestonians, as well as visiting places in South Ribble and Wyre that
we’ve not worked in before. I hope that some of the people who visit
us while we’re out and about will stay involved and volunteer with us
in the future, once we’re back in a permanent home later in the year.”

Mike Gardner, volunteer presenter and Steering Group chair, added:
“It’s really exciting to be going out on the road. Moving all our
equipment around will take some doing – as will making sure that all
of our presenters, producers and technicians are in the right place at
the right time – but we have a great team of volunteers and we’ll all
be pulling together to make it work.
