[comradio-l] Ofcom awards 29 temporary radio licences for Ramadan 2009

Ofcom has confirmed that 29 temporary radio broadcast licences (SRSLs)
will be issued for the period of Ramadan commencing in August 2009.

Earlier this year 16 licences were awarded for locations where there
was one applicant, and yesterday a further 13 temporary radio
broadcast licences (SRSLs) were awarded following a draw.

Each year Ofcom receives a large number of applications to broadcast
during Ramadan, and in areas where more than one application is
received Ofcom awards a licence by way of a draw, subject to
applications satisfying the rules set out in our notes of guidance,
and to frequency availability.

These radio stations broadcast to the Muslim community within a 3km (2
mile) radius of their chosen transmitter site, for the period of
Ramadan and Eid (32 days in total).

All applicants were invited to Ofcom to see the draw, but for the
first time a recorded video of the draw and results, is available to
