It seems 208 metres medium wave will now be happy memories only:</p><p><strong><br></strong></p><p><strong>Medium-wave transmitters for Deutschlandradio have been turned off in Germany, along with services in France and Luxembourg.</strong></p><p>Stations operated by Radio France – France Info, France Bleu RCFM, and France Bleu Elsass went silent on AM at midnight.</p><p>The closure today of Deutschlandradio’s AM transmitters in Germany means no more German language services will be broadcast from the country on medium-wave.</p><p>In Luxembourg, the once great 208m, home of RTL and Luxy, has also fallen silent.</p><p>Here in the UK, the only recent closures of AM radio are from a number of BBC local radio stations which have turned off transmitters during a number of trials. The BBC’s only national AM station, 5 live, makes no reference to its AM frequencies instead promoting digital and online as ways to listen.</p><p>David Lloyd has <a href="http://davidlloyd-radio.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/farewell-medium-wave.html">blogged</a> on the subject, and compiled some audio memories of AM radio over the years.</p></body></html>
