The Encoding, Multiplex and Modulation part is very easy and cheap to do (in relation to Macro Site DAB/Full Scale DAB) and can be built on very low cost PC's with a low cost SDR Modulator. I've had my (Hack RF) setup running since March with DLS as well using some very basic Python scripting for capturing "now playing, weather and news" (under suppressed radiation conditions) - albeit without filters and RF Amp and it's been 'bullet proof' to date.

I think it'll be great for small operators who can't get an FM licence if there are no frequencies available but may eligible for a Small Scale DAB licence - (post the trial being successful of course) and can manage the setup themselves with minimal support from outside thus reducing costs. For Community stations I'm assuming keeping the cost down is important especially where the very big step to Full Scale DAB is prohibited by costs. It may also encourage collaboration between Community Station to operate small SFN sites to cover larger areas than traditional FM coverage.

<span
