<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;" class="">Playing devil’s advocate for a minute….<div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">While I’m sure that all of these proposed syndicated programmes are excellent in themselves, and will have great production values, content and “listenability”, I’m a little uncomfortable with the concept.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">I’m sure that when we all put together our original proposals, bids, business cases or whatever, the key messages we were focussing on included “locality” and “uniqueness". “MyTown FM” etc. We also talked about giving presenting and volunteering opportunities to our local community, widening access, and presenting the listeners with a real alternative to the “usual” national and regional programming fodder.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Whether you’re a regional community radio station who’s raison-d’etre is to focus on the community in a specific geographical area, or a community-of-interest station which focusses on a specific cultural community, the idea of nationally-syndicated shows doesn’t really chime with that original ethos. Are we “getting too big for our boots” and trying to become something that we were never intended to be?
