May 5, 2015</span></i><span lang="EN-CA">. On April 25, </span><a href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/may/03/most-buildings-in-kathmandu-deemed-uninhabitable-following-quake" target="_blank"><span lang="EN-CA">Nepal was struck
by an earthquake</span></a><span lang="EN-CA"> of 7.9 in
magnitude. The damages
are extensive and numerous aftershocks have complicated search
and rescue work
and the delivery of humanitarian help. <span>The </span></span><a href="http://www.amarc.org/" target="_blank"><span lang="EN-CA">World
Association of Community Radio Broadcasters</span></a><span><span lang="EN-CA">
(</span></span><span lang="EN-CA">AMARC) <span>expressed</span> <span>its solidarity with the</span> <span>people
of Nepal</span>
<span>and mobilizes</span> <span>its
network to</span> <span>support them</span>.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><br><span lang="EN-CA"><u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-CA">Nepal can count on
a strong and vibrant
community radio network. Stations are operating all over the
country, even in remote
areas. However, the April 25 earthquake has taken a toll on the
network. More
than a hundred radio stations in 30 districts have been affected
and are in
need of urgent help.<span> </span><span> </span><u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-CA">Our staff from the
</span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/AMARC-Asia-Pacific/579244995449551" target="_blank"><span lang="EN-CA">Asia Pacific
office</span></a><span lang="EN-CA"> are on the ground and hard at work,
in collaboration with the </span><a href="http://www.acorab.org.np/" target="_blank"><span lang="EN-CA">Association of
Community Radio
Broadcasters Nepal</span></a><span lang="EN-CA">
(ACORAB), assessing the status of community radios that have
been damaged by
the earthquake. Teams have been deployed in the field and are
visiting some of
the most severely impacted districts. <u></u><u></u></span></p>
