<p class="MsoNormal">De Montfort University is hosting the second of
it’s regular RadioLab Lectures with Dave Walters, Global Radio’s
Broadcast Technology Operations Manager. The event is open to people
working in the Radio Industry, volunteering in Community Radio or
Student Radio.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal">===================================================</p><p class="MsoNormal">“Dave
Walters, 39, is a Mancunian living in Kent, a husband, a father of two,
an author and also Global Radio’s Broadcast Technology Operations
Manager.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><br>He manages everything between the presenter’s
mouth and your ears for Heart, Capital, Classic, Gold, XFM, Choice and
LBC. He might be one of the dullest people you will ever meet. He drives
a diesel car, but did not select Betamax over VHS. As a fan of
drinking, Dave will guide us through the technical history of radio, how
it works today and what might happen in the future - all in the format
of a Pub Quiz. So, pay attention: there will be A Test. No formulas will
be harmed in the making of this Quiz. Ideally, he will be engaged in an
argument to make the time fly by faster. There may be jingles.<br>
<br>Dave started working in radio at the age of 16 at Northern Air
Hospital Radio, and studied at one of the three great universities,
where he also ran University Radio Hull. After a brief spell as a
Marketing Manager for a tile company, he became Junior Engineer at
Classic FM, before moving north to look after and then automate Lite AM,
build Wish FM and then – on the day Diana died – he moved to London's
Heart 106.2. He built LBC's suite of ten west London studios in 100 days
and then moved the lot into Leicester Square as Global Radio acquired
Chrysalis and GCap.<br>
<br>Today, Dave lives on a train, is a recent Mac convert, manages a
team of 40 engineers across the country and still occasionally gets
woken up in the middle of the night when things go wrong. In your future
media careers do not think its OK to wake up your engineers because you
have forgotten your password. Do, however, leave lasting impressions on
him with your passion for content, creativity and an ability to cope.<br>
<br>Dave has won many awards (actually, it’s just some) for live music,
live events and technical innovation. He has also caused some enormous
cock-ups, but like his charity work, doesn't like to talk about it.<br><br>
Join him on Thursday the 24th of November at 5pm to cheat your way onto the Leader Board. Terms and Conditions apply.</p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal">=====================================================</p>
