The Sandford St Martin Trust is calling for entries to the UK’s most
prestigious broadcasting awards for radio/audio, TV and online content
exploring religious, spiritual or ethical themes, in what will be its 40th
anniversary year.

Eligible programmes must have been first broadcast during 2017 and have
been available to general UK audiences. Applications are encouraged from
all programme genres: news, current affairs, drama, music, arts, children's
and comedy, as well as from specifically 'religious' commissions that were
broadcast for the first time to UK audiences during 2017.

Speaking about the Trust’s forty years work to promote religious
broadcasting, Anna McNamee Director of the Trust said:

“Whether you’re talking about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the
> role evangelical churches have played on both sides of the American
> political divide, the pro-Life movement or Russian nationalism, religion
> and belief continue to play as key a role in people’s lives and world
> events today as it did forty years ago. And journalistically sound,
> religiously literate broadcasting is a key tool for understanding people
> and events around the world and in our own communities from all
> perspectives."

Bishop Nick Baines, Chair of the Trust said: “Over 85% of the world’s
population hold an individual or communal religious commitment. In order
to understand the world, we need to look through their eyes. Good
religious broadcasting isn’t about proselytism, it’s about something far
more important: understanding and mutual coexistence."

The deadline for entries is *Wednesday 31 January 2018*.

Winners will be announced at a special ceremony at Lambeth Palace on *Thursday,
June 7th 2017*.
