>From what I understood from the outset was there was a local News hub in various areas around the Country. Media be them Commercial / Community whatever could access it ie:- passworded like traffic reports or news services which are paid for ……. As I saw it someone somewhere shut the door on us accessing before Chrimbo (October / November I seem to recall. Is this correct is the question ?

Give us a clue team Personally, I don’t mind using 5 hour out of date/time local news ….

Possibly we’ll know more when our Chief negotiators have gone ‘cap-in-hand’ again which is all we seem to be doing.

This should be a no brainer …. It’s Public Money and the news ought to be available for everyone.

It came about because I think ‘we’ all agreed local news wasn’t being done justice. This can improve it as long as you don’t exclude people.

I understand that such news is allowed on a CR Station website AFTER it has been sent to or used by the BBC.

As for further use of the audio, I don’t know.

I would think this could be circumnavigated by a short Q & A with an ‘on the spot’ witness.

I believe the scheme is based on an ‘embedded’ person at your location. Ironically, Community Radio is well placed, since many local newspaper offices no longer exist and are based miles away from the community.

In terms of the placement qualifications for the reporters, such as Health and Safety, facilities and commitment sadly best avoided.

We discussed this a while ago with several people.

We were told, specifically, that the outward flow of news would NOT be allowed to go to community radio stations.

The information we were told, was that this project is to help prop up local commercial newpapers and commercial web news media, who are suffering due to the BBC local news services.

In other words, community radio was to be excluded from receiving any news, as it wasn't designed for us, but to help ailing commercial outlets.

Does anyone know, 100%, what the correct position is?

The BBC is inviting applications for the Local News Partnerships project.

A partnership between the BBC and the local news industry will offer 150 journalists recruited to report on councils and other local services across the country takes a significant step forward this month.

Applications for news organisations that want to be involved in the Local News Partnership opened on 15 May 2017 and close at 12pm on 26th May 2017.

The Eligibility Criteria are robust:

And further notes on the application process may be found here:

The deadline is very tight and the qualifying threshold may be out of reach of many community media projects. However CMA members, whether or not they wish to bid for contracts under the Local Democracy Reporter Service (LDRS), may still be able to benefit from access to the News Hub which will provide a daily supply of stories from the LDRS for free use by participating media.

Furthermore, community media groups that do not feel sufficiently qualified to apply might nevertheless find opportunities as partners in a consortium bid led by a qualifying news provider such as a local TV channel or a local newspaper. It is expected that large local newspaper chains will submit stand alone bids - however smaller independent local news media may be interested in being part of or leading a consortium. The BBC has indicated that they will welcome consortium bids and that multimedia production capability is a criterion.

It is recommend that if your community media project wishes to benefit from this scheme during the short time that applications are invited, determine if any bids are being made in your area and propose joining a local news consortium to the lead bid applicant.
