The BBC is inviting applications for the Local News Partnerships project.

A partnership between the BBC and the local news industry will offer 150
journalists recruited to report on councils and other local services across
the country takes a significant step forward this month.

Applications for news organisations that want to be involved in the Local
News Partnership opened on 15 May 2017 and close at 12pm on 26th May 2017.

The deadline is very tight and the qualifying threshold may be out of reach
of many community media projects. However CMA members, whether or not they
wish to bid for contracts under the Local Democracy Reporter Service
(LDRS), may still be able to benefit from access to the News Hub which will
provide a daily supply of stories from the LDRS for free use by
participating media.

Furthermore, community media groups that do not feel sufficiently qualified
to apply might nevertheless find opportunities as partners in a consortium
bid led by a qualifying news provider such as a local TV channel or a local
newspaper. It is expected that large local newspaper chains will submit
stand alone bids - however smaller independent local news media may be
interested in being part of or leading a consortium. The BBC has indicated
that they will welcome consortium bids and that multimedia production
capability is a criterion.

It is recommend that if your community media project wishes to benefit from
this scheme during the short time that applications are invited, determine
if any bids are being made in your area and propose joining a local news
consortium to the lead bid applicant.
