[cma-l] Sky/Fox Radio News

For the vast majority of stations, news already comes either from Sky's
newsroom (with an ITN badge) or from the BBC. Further, 21st Century Fox
already owns a controlling stake of Sky (39%).

This takeover changes nothing in terms of news provision or the wider
broadcast landscape in the UK. Requirements of political balance in the
Broadcasting Act will remain, and protect UK consumers quite adequately.
I'd not waste time contacting Ofcom - there's absolutely no change here.

Both Global and Jazz FM use Sky's resources as a national newsgatherer, and
read and compile bulletins locally. Sky is credited on both LBC and Jazz
FM's website for providing news. Sky also produces Channel 5's news.

RadioNewsHub appear to use Reuters (at the very least, copy/paste a
paragraph from their stories into Google and you get a Reuters piece
appearing at #1 using the same text).

A reminder, too, that "bias" isn't just how news is reported; it's also how
it isn't. Global suppressed coverage of an HSBC money laundering scandal
for three days across their network for a reason, Private Eye claimed, was
related to Tabor family matters. Ofcom investigated, confirmed that Global
deliberately supressed the coverage, but (incredibly, in my mind), took no
action.

In my humble opinion, 21st Century Fox owning a little more of Sky is not
anywhere near as serious.
