The online radio platform RADIO.GARDEN has been nominated for a
prestigious Webby award <http://webbyawards.com/> in two categories,
streaming media and best streaming audio. In the latter category, it is
competing with major players such as Spotify and Pandora, which is not bad
for a project funded as academic research output.

RADIO.GARDEN is an online radio navigator and exhibition platform that
allows users to explore an interactive globe filled with radio’s past and
present. It is designed by Studio.Puckey in collaboration with Studio
Moniker. It went live (and viral) 13 December 2016 and has received
millions of visitors since. Articles have appeared in The Atlantic, The
Guardian, The Independent, Wired Germany, NPR.

Caroline Mitchell of Sunderland University treated delegates to the 2016
Community Media Conference to a sneak preview of RADIO.GARDEN in September,
several months before the project was launched to the public.

for Sound and Vision as part of the HERA-funded European collaborative
research project Transnational Radio Encounters (TRE), directed by

Mitchell of Sunderland University, Jacob Kreutzfeld of Copenhagen
University, Peter Lewis from London Metropolitan University and Per Jauert
of Aarhus University.
