Not sure whether this is eligible for the 'Arts & Creative Radio of the Year' category of the 2017 Awards or whether we should set up a new 'Best Drama' category! Decisions, decisions.

Subject: [cma-l] Drama at Radio Verulam

Below is a press release about a series of original dramas recorded as radio plays by Radio Verulam in conjunction with amateur dramatic company, the Company of Ten based at the Abbey Theatre in St Albans.

We are happy to offer them free to any other CR stations that would like them and will be setting up a system to distribute them if there is sufficient interest.

Please let me know if you would like to run them

Drama at Radio Verulam thanks to Company of Ten
Abbey Theatre-based Company of Ten has joined forces with St Albans' own Radio Verulam to produce a number of radio plays to be broadcast on Sunday evenings over the next couple of months.
The company recorded and aired its first play, an adaptation of "The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by Mark Waghorn, from Radio Verulam's newly refurbished studios last autumn, and has just finished recording a complete set of plays which have all been written by members of the established CoT Writer's Group.
The series commences on August 28th at 4pm with "Terms and Conditions Apply" written by Peter Hale and directed by Martin Goodman, then followed weekly by "Delivered" (Jane Fookes/Terry Prince), "Impromptu" (Derek Rhodes/Tina Swain), a repeat of "The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" (Mark Waghorn), "Empire of Dirt" (Ian Jordan), "Lear and his Daughters" (Chystalla Spire), and "Spaghetti Junction" (Anne Stafford-Murray/ Angela Stone). All the parts are played and recorded by the Company's members.
After each play has aired, it will be available as a free podcast on both iTunes and the Abbey Theatre website, www.abbeytheatre.org.uk<http://www.abbeytheatre.org.uk/>, where listeners can also find a synopsis of each play.
Chair of the Company of Ten Martin Goodman is highly enthusiastic about the joint venture.
"Being able to record at the Radio Verulam studios has meant we can deliver first-class broadcasts and podcasts with all the special effects and technical expertise we might need. Radio drama is a hugely exciting opportunity for us to engage with the wider community and enables us to demonstrate our range of talents to many more people. With an estimated audience of over fifteen thousand listeners, Radio Verulam is the perfect vehicle."

Nick Hazell, chairman at Radio Verulam is equally excited.

"Local content like this is what makes our station different, and makes us a real part of the local community. We are delighted to be collaborating with the Company of Ten to bring their excellent work to a wider audience. It also nicely complements our own "Greasepaint & Stagelights" show with Mark Bilsby (Tuesdays at 9pm)"
The full broadcast schedule is available on the Radio Verulam website, www.radioverulam.com<http://www.radioverulam.com/> and its Facebook page www.facebook.com/radioverulam<http://www.facebook.com/radioverulam>.
