Sorry for the e-mail chaps
. I’m trying to be restrained and chilled. The
light bulb went on though and hey presto

Nick

See below just saying it as I see it
. Or am I saying it as it is
?? hmm ? you decide and by all means let me know, I’ve got broad
shoulders.

Dear All

Can we all please look beyond the façade and the circus to see if we can get
ourselves back on the straight and narrow. That is of course whether you
agree or disagree whether we have EVER been on the straight and narrow. We
have each and as a fraternity achieved a lot over the years, but it has been
a slog and we haven’t had a great deal of assistance. In fact we have had
hindrance and the hindrance continues. Sadly for Uncle West Wolds and Auntie
Hub the slog is over as is the banging one head against the brick-wall and
they cry in the wilderness no longer.

This e-mail from Ian isn’t just about flogging off kit and getting ones
money back, it goes deeper than that, a hell of a lot deeper than that. It’s
another Station or two or three going boing ! we fiddle as
the CR smoulders.

I wish to know through this column/notice board/e-mail/message board what
has been said and/or asked of the new people in Posts at the DCMS ?? if
anything ? has the question been popped yet regarding the 8
Million quid ? clearly not.

I wish to point out to the DCMS and Government and dare I say CMA that
ignoring things and hoping they go away is not the answer to any of the woes
as some of us (?) are not going away
it simply makes us peck even more.

The BBC chappy at the Conference agreed that all the 8 Million goes to the
Journalist Programme at the BBC and Newspapers and that we don’t see a
sausage of it ------- I wouldn’t have had him within 20 Miles of the
Conference.

Can we please invite people to our conferences who are going to further our
cause the following year. Half of the ones this year even though reasonably
interesting were about as much use as an ashtray on a Motorbike. The other
50% were excellent though especially the two ladies who asked the correct
questions –you which ones I mean
the ones that need to be asked.

When are we going to wise up and harden up ?

Regardless what people think, I much prefer the friendly amicable, polite,
sincere and helpful approach --- I will always try this route first and then
keep trying it. However you reach a point where you have to draw a line in
the sand.

14 Years ! 14 Years ! and what have we got ? a £15,000 reprieve
at the bottom end.

Can we please approach the new Ministers and hopefully receive a new
approach to see if we can get at least a bit of movement on both the funding
front and dare I say to revisit the restrictions and dump the lot.

If we don’t ask the question and we dither we will forever be going down the
pan.

It was interesting at conference when I asked the question about individual
Station funding. Anyone with half a brain could see that (let us say) things
could be better, or even a lot better, but it is embarrassing to stick your
hand and say we actually haven’t a pot to pee in.

We (Canalside) have been operating for over 12 Years at a limp, sometimes
limping a bit faster when we grab a few sponsors. In a League table we’re
possibly somewhere in the middle

. We won’t get relegated but likewise we
won’t win the Trophy or get promotion. Most of our woes of course caused by
other people / other departments and outdated pointless rules.

It’s easy to blame others but these are the facts, I can only run with the
facts. With a bit of assistance from the powers that be, I’m sure al of us
could at least get in the play-offs.

So the conclusion is ----------- can we please have some answers to the
questions, some guidance as to where we are heading and if we haven’t asked
the questions, when are we going to ask them and who to ? I’m afraid
if we don’t there might be other folk selling off kit to Santa Claus at
Chrimbo.

I just spotted an e-mail come through from Dear Jane and the team at Cannock

they don’t need equipment (except for Transmission) trouble is, they
don’t know when (if ever) anyway yet another c o c k – u p Community
Radio shambles.

By the way, when’s the AGM
. ? book me in front row please.

Interesting how Ian signs off with ‘’’fellow broadcaster’’’ you may not
be able to use that in a few years time Ian as there’ll only be you left
standing :)

Britain)

PS This is not a pop at our team
.. you each have my full support. I
know you do the best with limited resources. I just feel we could make
things better if our team had the full support of the fraternity behind
them.

We find ourselves in the difficult situation again of trying to help Client
stations recover some of their investment when for one reason or another
they have ceased operation.

There is an excellent dual-studio format at West Wolds Radio together with
its transmission system that is available for sale - and from tomorrow the
3-transmitter network equipment from The Hub in Cornwall.

We have full original manifests for these stations if you would like a copy
- subject always to the current owner's consent.

We do not necessarily have title this equipment but on occasions we will
take some units back to offset a debt.

Ownership will be made clear to serious enquirers.

All equipment wherever possible is refurbished and tested to new
specification and we are available to assist with modification and the new
installation if required.

You could well end up with some bargains - together with the satisfaction of
knowing that you have helped out a fellow broadcaster.
