Hi Alex,
I remember that not monitoring off air would get you a memo with a severe ticking off. I guess the monitoring rules may have changed but I bet the memos haven’t.
Kind Regards
Alan

Interesting, thanks. None of the small commercials here in the north of Scotland does it.
There's no need to listen off air to know how you sound, though I can see it's the easiest way if your processor is at a remote transmitter.
It occurs to me that any stations that go DAB-only certainly won't have the option of routine off air listening. I suppose that won't affect the likes of the BBC or national commercials as I doubt their presenters ever listen off air, certainly not the BBC nationals, and they didn't do so in any BBC local stations that I have been in in the past.

Does anybody routinely listen off-air in the studio? I have never come across any station that does that. It's good to monitor it of course, typically a radio in the kitchen or reception permanently playing, and it should be an option for the studio to check output, but am I alone in thinking it unusual to listen off-air as a matter of routine in the studio?
We do, and always have done.
Until recently the commercial station I work for also did the same.
It is not off putting at all provided there are no delays (we use a Band I analog link), and it does give you an idea as to how you sound on air.
