Well done Shirley - I think we're not always good as a sector in garnering patrons. Some years ago I remember sheepishly asking the truly gorgeous Judi Dench  to be a patron of Sound Radio and she'd agreed before I'd even finished the sentence. The potential for credibility by association is not to be underestimated. Nothing like a good name drop at the right moment.

Keeping up the profile...
On the anniversary of Boyzone arriving in Swindon to surprise me as part of the ITV "Surprise Surprise" programme, I meet up with Shane Lynch.  We talked about his keen interest in supporting opportunities for women and young people to develop personal and physical strength and confidence.  I am just starting a project with a small grant, to work with local Agencies and police who work with women who've suffered violent or abusive relationships, which was of interest to Shane.   When I popped the question asking him to come a Patron of the town's Community Radio service he readily agreed.  I was delighted at his readiness to do so - and he has promised to come and visit the Station and see more of our work first-hand.
Shane will represent Music and Community.  He joins fellow Patrons Whoopi Goldberg who I met at ABC Studios in New York as a treat from the ITV programme and who represents The Arts, Simon May (Wiltshire composer of music such as award-winning Eastenders theme) representing music and Lord Joel Joffe, CBE representing Business and Community.
