I'm not sure why you're going to Ofcom Bob - the meeting's at Broadcasting House.

Gosh - you are an ole cynic - aren't you?
That's just the point - Ofcom hasn't made up its mind - it's asking for views generally and individually.
If you read the regular bulletins you'll  see that "the likes of Sky TV and Vodafone" are taken to task by Ofcom - and heavily fined where necessary.
Ofcom doesn't tell the community sector how it should grow and operate its business - that's your own elected Government via legislation.
And - no - the consultation doesn't mention commercial radio because that's not its purpose.
But do tell Ofcom about misuse of frequencies and blocking by simulcast relays - that IS its responsibility and it will act.
Failings are the responsibility of the Licensee - not Ofcom - the facts are all there as to what you're taking on - caveat emptor!

I'm not sure if it's worth spending the train fare to go to Ofcom

They have already made their mind up. Just the same old mess and heartache.

It is impossible to imagine the day when the likes of SKY TV and Vodafone will ever be dictated to by Ofcom's preferred choice. Yet it ok to tell the community radio sector how it should grow and operate its business.

The consultation does not even mention commercial radio and its frequency miss-use or blocking by simulcast relays.

They have not learned anything from the wholesale failings of the past 10 years.

Thank you for your email and messages on Facebook.

The CMA is contacting the stations concerned to find out more detail as the reasons for stations to close can be complex. I understand that Tulip found it difficult to recruit skilled technical volunteers. The CMA is working with Dom and other stakeholders to develop a consortium approach that will build sector stability for the long term.

The CMA is working with Ofcom on its consultation on the future licensing and technical policy for community radio. We co-developed Ofcom's pre-consultation survey and programmed them into the Community Media Conference in September. The current round of licensing will draw to a close in Spring 2017 after which Ofcom proposes to license more analogue services.

Responding to feedback received so far, it is Ofcom's preferred approach to invite applications from where they have evidence of demand (using 'expressions of interest') after checking that there is a suitable frequency available. The CMA is meeting with Ofcom next week and the future licensing and technical policy consultation will be on the agenda.
