Subject: [cma-l] Dom Chambers to host the Community Radio Awards

The inaugural Community Radio Awards <http://www.communityradioawards.co.uk> - taking place on the 10th September at Birmingham City University - are excited to announce that they will be hosted by Dom Chambers.

The Awards will celebrate, champion and promote the amazing work of community radio throughout the UK. With 235 nominations received for 16 categories organisers are pleased with how the awards are engaging community broadcasters. Whilst entries continue to be evaluated judges have already fed back on how impressed they are with the wide range of skills, talent, and creativity across the sector.

Dom Chambers is well known as an advocate for the community broadcasting. Dom, who served on the CMA council for five years, runs Somer Valley FM <http://www.somervalleyfm.co.uk/> in Somerset. He presents the Third Sector Show on inRadio <http://www.commedia.org.uk/news/2016/06/inradio-third-sector-show/> and chairs the Radio Academy's Affiliated Partners group. Dom says:

“I am delighted to be hosting the first community radio awards. This is not about winners and losers but an opportunity to showcase the fantastic work achieved on an hourly basis by community broadcasters in the UK. I first encouraged Martin to develop his ideas with the support of the CMA over two years ago so it is wonderful to see his efforts come to fruition. I very much look forward to working with him on what I know will be a great celebration.”

The Community Radio Awards evening welcomes everyone involved in the radio industry and the third sector. Organisers expect that many people will come straight from the Community Media Conference <http://www.commedia.org.uk/news/2016/03/community-media-conference-16/> . The evening will begin with a drinks reception sponsored by PPL and PRS for Music. The formal awards will start at 7pm with a 10pm finish and an after show party planned at a local bar. Tickets for the Awards are £20 - or only £15 for those who are attending the Community Media Conference <http://www.commedia.org.uk/news/2016/03/community-media-conference-16/> earlier in the day. Tickets can be booked at http://goo.gl/dCSO6P . The Community Media Conference has a particularly strong programme this year and bookings can be made at http://bit.ly/2016CMAConf

The Chair and organiser of the Awards, Martin Steers says “I am really looking forward to the ceremony and the culmination of years of work on the awards. It's been wonderful to have received so many entries and to see so much engagement from the sector in the first year of the awards. It's great to have Dom come on board as our Master of Ceremonies and I look forward to working with him on the night to bring a real sense of celebration and accomplishment to all those present and to the sector as a whole.”
