Ofcom has today published a statement
<http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/chorley-fm-change-request/statement/>
approving a request from Chorley FM to make changes to its key commitments.

Chorley FM, which holds a community radio licence for Chorley, Lancashire,
has asked to make several changes to its key commitments – including to the
community it serves, the paragraph describing its character of service, and
some programming and social gain objectives.

Chorley FM’s target community, as set out in its key commitments, was young
people aged 15-25; and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)
community of Chorley.

Following the approval of the requested changes, the station’s target
community will now be the population that live, work and study in Chorley,
and to include targeted content for the young people of Chorley (15-25
years of age) and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. In
considering the changes, Ofcom was satisfied that Chorley FM will continue
to have some specific focus on serving, involving and being accountable to,
young people and the LGBT community (even though it would serve the broader
population too).

Ofcom is able to approve these changes because it was content that they
satisfied at least one of the five criteria set out in the Broadcasting Act
1990. It also considered the request under its policy criteria and decided
it was appropriate to agree to the proposed changes.
