You'll be looking for a hell of long time Phil if you are looking for the
real World ...... it doesn't exist in this game.

Don't get me going again on all this malarkey ... the whole thing is a
complete and utter 'debacle' yup there's that word again. It's a
circus, and what makes it worse is the fact that people have had their
intelligence insulted with it all. I'm not the brightest lamp on the
Christmas Tree but I am by no means a half wit and all this nonsense has
made a mockery of the whole thing.

The key word in all of it is 'RELATIVE' whether a Big/Large, Medium,
Small, Tiny Radio Station is operating in an area under 150,000 it is
irrelevant, because the difficulty is the same for everyone the
Community Station as well (even more so) if the area is flush, then
everyone is flush. The end result is relative ..... it is the same for
everyone Small or Large. This argument has never ever been included IN THE
ARGUMENT

It's a joke and I have wiped my hands of it and I know I have commented on
this, but quite frankly I have lost the will to even argue anymore. 'THEY'
as in the autHorities DCMS or whoever, lost this argument years ago, as did
the Commercial boys, but to save face everyone has just ploughed on whilst
at the same time creating a hell of a lot of ill feeling and leaving a lot
of debr in it's wake

Anyway nuff said you don't want me whinging again

Please remember, I know all about this through experience ... we've lived
and breathed the rough ends of the stick for 7 years ... and even when we
got a half respite it was done for the complete wrong reasons and not what
was morally right, so unfortunately I do have a rather large Bee in my
Bonnet on this one.

On a final note, unless someone has been meddling with the figures, the
correct figure is 14 ..... but about 11 of these are small stations
broadcasting in Army Barracks (etc) there's one in Scotland and then Bay
and Tudno as far as I know ?? we were on the list up till 2 years ago and
then the commercial Station at the drop of a Hat got a power boost and then
'they' the 'they' said we could come out of the restrictions .... how very
nice of them.
Can I remind everyone that we are ALL in restrictions .. bureaucratic
nonsense restrictions .. 50% percents and £15,000 limits ... unless once
again I've missed something.

It's like looking over your shoulder all the time in a straight jacket.

Just drop the lot and regulate people on the spend and not the earn !

It is not difficult.

Lord Kimble is going to end up with a headache .... you never know, he might
take one look at it and say ''who the hell thought this lot up ?''

Nick

Interesting reading the CMA's briefing note.

A couple of observations, it says:
"CMA analysis indicates there to be 88 commercial stations
broadcasting to a population of fewer than 150,000). Out of these 88
stations only 20 can be considered to be ‘genuinely independent’ "

I'd concur almost. The last Ofcom published information on coverage
areas I've seen (dated 9 May 2013) lists 89 'Analogue local' licences
with MCA's under 150k. You need to discount Nevis FM who surrendered
their 'commercial' licence when awarded a Community Radio licence.
Furthermore recently Radio Hafren ceased operation, leaving 87 stations.

However of these I'd classify eight of the small Scottish stations as
"Community Radio stations with legacy 'ILR' licences". So that leaves
only six small commercial radio stations who are 'independent" of a group.

I also quote from the CMA document
"The most significant change to previous restrictions on advertising and
programme sponsorship revenue is the introduction of a threshold of
£15,000 commercial revenue, below which the restrictions will no longer
apply. This has two important effects.
First, it will allow 18 stations that were previously prevented from
receiving such revenues, to receive up to £15,000."

I'd like to have a list of these 18 stations, as it's something that
doesn't appear to be published by Ofcom. I'm trying to do some research
into the "real world" effects of a community station near a small
commercial station, but struggling to find a full list of CR's with
restrictions.

Phil.
