The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) confirmed the total of
£393,000 for the Community Radio Fund for 2014/15 (link
<http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadcasting/radio/community-radio-fund/14-15-awards-round-2>
).

For 2015/16, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) confirmed a
total of £377,000 for the Community Radio Fund (link
<http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadcasting/radio/community-radio-fund/grants-1516-round1>
).

This is a reduction of 4.07% from 2014/15 to 2015/16.

As a matter of the highest priority, the CMA continues to work to improve
the funding situation for community media and we are fortunate to have a
Broadcast Minister in post who is very sympathetic to the plight of
community radio and very much aware of the funding situation as evidenced
by his contribution to the Draft Community Radio (Amendment) Order 2015 -
Commons debate, 24th March 2015:

*Ed Vaizey MP, Wantage (Conservative)*

"...I have said when debating other issues—previously, to do with digital
radio—it is important that we stress cross-party support for the sectors,
particularly for community radio, especially as it began under the previous
Labour Government. Community radio is an unequivocal success story.

I agree with the hon. Gentleman that after the election the next
Government, whoever they may be, should take a long, hard look at community
radio, because a vibrant ecosystem has been created. These wonderful
stations are professionally run, providing an outlet for many talented
people and a huge resource for their local communities. I would put
community radio up there as one of the key priorities for the next
Broadcasting Minister to consider."

Funding and sustainability will be two key themes of the CMA's Community
Media Conference to be held on Saturday 12th September at Radio LaB,
University of Bedfordshire, Luton and we look forward to seeing as many of
our members and supporters there as possible - more details to be announced
imminently.
