(BNNRC) selected as a member

of national committee  from
the community media sector


Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is going to establish a
National Broadcasting Commission and formulate the National Broadcasting
Act 2015 in the light of National Broadcasting Policy 2014. The objectives
behind this initiative are to bring all the media outlets into one
integrated structure and to help build up an independent, pluralistic,
accountable and responsive broadcasting system in Bangladesh.



As part of the process Ministry of Information has announced a
national committee through a gazette notification that included 38 members
from broadcasting stakeholders of the country. This committee will draft a
law on the structure and procedures of National Broadcasting Commission and
the National Broadcasting Act 2015 according to the National Broadcasting
Policy 2014.



The committee is chaired by the reputed mass communication specialist and
academician Professor Dr.Golam Rahman.He is now acting as Pro-vice
Chancellor of Daffodil International University and the Bangladesh
representative of The Asian Media Information and Communication Centre
(AMIC). The Ministry has included Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and
Communication (BNNRC) as a member to represent the community media sector
in the committee.



First meeting was held on 7th January in the conference room of the
Ministry of Information at Bangladesh secretariat. Dr.Golam Rahman chaired
the meeting in which Mr. Hasanul Haque Inu, MP, Hon'ble Minister for
Ministry of Information, Mr. Golam Martuza, Hon'ble Secretary, Ministry of
Information, Mr.Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury,  Information Advisor to Hon'ble
Prime Minister   and representative from broadcasting stakeholders
attended.



A 7-member sub committee was formed to formulate the structure and law
related to National Broadcasting Commission and the National Broadcasting
Act 2015, where Barrister Tanjibul Haque chaired. Bangladesh NGOs Network
for radio and Communication (BNNRC) is a member of the sub-committee.



The national committee will submit a draft law on the structure and legal
procedures on National Broadcasting Commission within 60 days and a draft
on National Broadcasting Act within next 90 days.


Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has been
struggling for the last 14 years for developing National Broadcasting
Commission and National Broadcasting Act in Bangladesh. BNNRC actively
works to improve recognition of the community electronic media sector
[Community Radio | Community TV | Community Film] & its work in and
involvement with the communities it seeks to serve. BNNRC represent the
community electronic media sector to Government, Industry, Regulatory
Bodies, Media, Academia and Development Partners from 2000. The BNNRC
provides leadership and support for rural initiators to facilitate
independent electronic community broadcasting services and to build and
strengthen rural communities with support from Free Press Unlimited.
