</div>Many Members will know that we have been working for some time now with Amphenol Antenna Solutions (the successor to Jaybeam Aerials) on a feasible single-source mixed-polarity antenna for Community Radio.
We exhibited the 7860 at last year's CMA AGM and Conference - and four CR Licensees have since then experienced the benefit that this particular propagation format provides, making a total of 16 units now installed and operational for Community Radio stations.
There are two potential drawbacks - price - and the fact that this antenna produces an almost perfect clean circular coverage pattern and as such is not compatible with a directional restriction should Ofcom require one for your frequency and location.
The first regrettably is unchanged because we have to recover the cost of 15 months' development work - but now the second is possibly no longer an obstacle as just yesterday we obtained approval for a modified version which will comply with certain protection factors.
In view of the lack of time, we will be unable to have any formal details available at this year's Conference but I would be happy to discuss this development with Members who need more information.
Just as a reminder - Ofcom almost always offers mixed polarity to Community Radio Licensees but only 39 (15%) of the 257 CR stations on air are currently taking advantage of the effective doubling of their radiated power that this permits.
Disclaimer:
We are a commercial Partnership deriving part of our revenue from sales to CR and other broadcaster organisations but are also continually working on behalf of our Client base with the CMA and Ofcom to improve the regulatory framework for Community Radio.
