Our yogurt carton, piece of string and coat hanger has worked wonders for
the last 12 years
and you know the old saying ‘’if it ain’t broken don’t
fix it’’ KCR though clearly moving into the 21st Century

Top of the morning to all :-)

Nick / Stoneage FM LOL :-)

Just a quick note to the list to say (again) - thanks for the help

The Behringer solution seems to do it all so we've decided on that route,
but all tips, tricks & ideas are greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Eddie

The S1 mixer has trim pots of up to 12dB gain on each channel, so the -10dB
level of domestic gear shouldn't be a problem if it were plugged straight in
to mixer channels. Not sure that the external monitor inputs do though.

Usually in practice it's not critical to do anything elaborate, but if I
were properly converting the outputs, I wouldn't use the Canford stick-ons -
they are a daft price, costing more than the cheaper tuners!

One of the most cost effective options is to get a Behringer 4-channel
compressor (with the defeat switches on) - they have balanced and unblanced
in on each channel and full level balanced outputs, for half the price of a
simple two-channel 'stick-on' convertor! And you have a spare set of
compressor-limiters and front panel level meters into the bargain!

(Or if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can get little unbal-bal
convertor PCB modules for £20-40 to stick inside, powered by the mixer or
tuner and giving a full balanced output.)

Scan Studiospares online or the other broadcast suppliers any rack mount
tuner is good and purchase a tamper proof rack panel to go in front of it.
Alternatively if cost sensitive a decent Sony HiFi receiver mounted and set
back on a 19" rack tray with a flat piece of clear Perspex with holes
drilled to fit the rack screw positions works. Matching and balancing
transformers are available suggest the "stick on" range via Canford audio
but if just off air monitoring may not be required as it feeds the headphone
pre amp via a selector. HiFi is lower level (phono) output than balanced
XLR. Won't go into the levels as you won't need the barber for a month!!

Good luck

Does anyone have any recommendations for a high quality FM tuner, preferably
lockable frequency wise and preferably rack mounted. Output to match the
inputs/outputs of a Sonifex S1 broadcast mixer.

I need to point a Funder at what we want & they will then buy it for us - so
eBay is out.

Please excuse my stunning lack of technical knowledge!!

Thanks,

Eddie Stuart
