Press Release
Paignton, Torbay – 22nd April 2014
Live FM broadcast for Parkfield’s Xtreme Radio
On Friday 30 and Saturday 31 May Parkfield’s Xtreme Radio team will be
broadcasting for the first time on an FM frequency. This ‘pop up’ FM
radio event is the culmination of a year’s hard work by young people
from all over Torbay.
Parkfield’s Xtreme Radio was set up to support young people in Torbay
and help them to raise their aspirations, increase their employability
and connect them through music. Young people from The Replay Team (Play
Torbay), Healthwatch, Acron Centre, Totally Teenagers, The Edge in
Brixham, Oldway Primary School and many more have all been involved in
this project.
Mitch Knight, Director of Sound Communities and Youth Worker at
Parkfield said: "Everyone at Parkfield has been energised by the
station's development - it's fantastic. Parkfield Xtreme Radio
broadcast live online shows every Wednesday and Friday evenings and also
on Saturday afternoons. You can listen to the shows at
www.soundcommunities/parkfield-radio.”
A young Producer from Parkfield Xtreme Radio said: “It’s unbelievable
and fun.”
Paul Taylor, Skills and Learning Youth Worker from Parkfield said: “The
station broadcasts music, issue-based and sports related programming all
aimed at and produced by young people. It works on a level of creative
participation and informal learning that I have not experienced before.”
This project has been funded by the National Lottery and developed in
partnership with Sound Communities Community Interest Company and Torbay
Council’s Children’s Services.
