[cma-l] Raspberry Pi in the studio

Hi Peter,

Any use of a Raspberry Pi for audio logging or recording would require an
external USB sound card, as the Pi doesn't have an audio input, only an
output. Cheap ones are available for as little as £5, but for serious radio
use you would probably be looking at one costing £50-60. This would then
necessitate the use of an external powered USB hub - the machine is not
powerful enough to supply power to such USB peripherals on its own.

I'm personally unconvinced by the Pi for this kind of application. Once you
have purchased and added all the required peripherals, cases and so on, the
cost is not that different to a small, low-powered PC system with
everything you need already included and more computing power available.
Small PCs with enough power to perform audio logging, streaming and other
simple tasks can easily be obtained for around £50 and seem to be far
neater solutions.

Cheers
Andy
