Celtic Music Radio, based in Glasgow, is a community-of-interest station. While most community radio stations focus on a localised geographical community, within easy reach of a low powered transmitter, our community is a global cultural community. Internet access allows us to extend our service to that worldwide community, in addition to our local FM service in our core area.

That community consists of people who create and appreciate traditional and contemporary Scottish, Irish and celtic-influenced music. We like to think that we are part of that community, broadcasting “with” it rather than “to” it. So we like to get out and about, broadcasting from all sorts of music events ranging from 2000-seat concert halls to the upstairs room at a pub….

This weekend, we were in Ireland!

"Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann” - or "The Fleadh", as it is usually called, -is the largest single festival of Irish Music and can reach attendances of 400,000 over the course of nine eventful days.

Celtic Music Radio were delighted to be invited to again broadcast live from the Fleadh, and this weekend our team have been presenting live shows from The Glasshouse hotel in Sligo, in north-west Ireland. Gordon Hotchkiss and Alex Jenkins broadcast all day, talking to musicians, competitors, visitors and organisers plus hosting a few impromptu live music sessions. And sharing a broadcast venue with RTE meant that we were able to nab a few high profile guests after they had done their TV interview!

This sort of thing is exactly what Community Radio is about.

Sincere thanks to our good friends at Tourism Ireland and the Glasshouse hotel in Sligo for making this broadcast possible.

Bruce.
