Dear Ms Devereux

I am writing to ensure you don’t miss the above seminar if you are able to
attend. Please note there is a charge for most delegates, although
concessionary and complimentary places are available (subject to terms and
conditions - see below).

This conference examines the range of policy initiatives to support
television production in the UK: what they mean for the sector, as well as
emerging opportunities and challenges more widely.

It comes as the British Film Institute announces the first projects to
receive tax credits as part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s
*Connectivity, Content and Consumers: Britain’s digital platform for
growth*<https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/225783/Connectivity_Content_and_Consumers_2013.pdf>strategy
to
support television production in the UK.

The agenda also reflects issues raised in the Culture, Media and Sport
Select Committee inquiry, *Support for the Creative
Industries*<http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/culture-media-and-sport-committee/inquiries/parliament-2010/support-for-the-creative-economy/>
, which has been taking evidence from major UK broadcasters on the
structure of the sector, investment in original content, and options to
ensure British independent producers remain competitive.

Keynote speakers are: *Kaye Elliot*, Head of Production Services, Creative
England; *Gina Fegan*, Sector Specialist for Digital and Screen Industries,
UK Trade & Investment and Chief Executive, D-Media Network; *John McVay*,
Chief Executive, Pact and *Samantha Perahia*, Senior Production Executive,
British Film Commission.

Further confirmed speakers include: *Will Cohen*, Chief Executive and
Executive Producer, Milk; *Harry Eastwood*, Investment Director, Ingenious
Media; *Mark Hackett*, Group Sales Director - Television Studios and
Facilities, Pinewood Studios Group; *Richard Johnston*, Chief Operating
Officer, Endemol UK; *Maria Kyriacou*, Managing Director, ITV Studios
Global Entertainment; *Paul Lee*, Head, Global TMT Research, Deloitte; *Charles
Moore*, Partner, Wiggin; *Mark Oliver*, Chief Executive, Oliver & Ohlbaum
Associates; *Nik Powell*, Director, National Film and Television
School; *Justin
Thomson-Glover*, Executive Producer, Far Moor and *Anne Wood*, Founder and
Creative Director, Ragdoll.

Areas for discussion include:

   - *The export market *- emerging strategies to market UK television
internationally, the role of Government, UKTI, BBCWW and Pact as
representative bodies, and how British content is competing in the global
   market with European and US imports;
   - Developing and protecting the UK’s first-class *facilities* and the
specialist *skills* necessary to remain internationally competitive and
attract inward investment from global broadcasters; and
   - *Access to finance* and the funding challenges facing the independent
production sector, the impact of the new* tax credits for high-end
drama*and the implications of the increasing use of co-productions on
programme-makers’ capacity to invest in the future.

The draft agenda is copied below my signature, and a regularly updated
version is available to view online
here<http://www.westminsterforumprojects.co.uk/forums/agenda/tv-production-agenda.pdf>.
The seminar is organised on the basis of strict impartiality by the Westminster
Media Forum.

industries, film and television independent producers, production

consumers and citizens, regulators, academics and representatives of the
national and trade press.

*Output and About Us*

A key output of the seminar will be a transcript of the proceedings, sent
out within a week of the event to all attendees and a wider group of
Ministers and officials at BIS, DCMS, HM Treasury and other government
departments; officials at the IPO and UKTI and other agencies affected by
the issues; and Parliamentarians with a special interest in these areas. It
will also be made available more widely. This document will include
transcripts of all speeches and questions and answers sessions from the
day, along with access to PowerPoint presentations, speakers’ biographies,
an attendee list, an agenda and sponsor information. It is made available
subject to strict restrictions on public use, similar to those for Select
Committee Uncorrected Evidence, and is intended to provide timely
information for interested parties who are unable to attend on the day.

All delegates will receive complimentary PDF copies and are invited to
contribute to the content.

The Westminster Media Forum is strictly impartial and cross-party, and
draws on the considerable support it receives from within Parliament and
government, and amongst the wider stakeholder community. The Forum has no
policy agenda of its own. Forum events are frequently the platform for
major policy statements from senior Ministers, regulators and other
officials, opposition speakers and senior opinion-formers in industry and
interest groups. Events regularly receive prominent coverage in the
national and trade press.

What impact is the casting of international talent as a means to sell
