Hi All
At Saint FM 94.7 we have always given over part of our weekly schedule to
shows produced, created and presented by young people. We currently run a
schools out programme 3.30 pm 4.30 pm every weekday and then have several
teams of young people who broadcast an average of 6 hours over the weekend
and produce some of our most popular shows. There is always an adult
present on sight for health and safety reasons but they are not involved
with show preparation that is all down to the young people. I also have a
work experience young person once a week that is out of mainstream education
who helps run the office. I personally welcome their commitment to the
Station and hope they continue to volunteer in a variety of roles in the
future.

Dear All
We have lots of programmes produced and presented by young people
..
likewise, we have grown ups here purely for supervision and health and
safety.
We also have people on hand as well in case the bailiffs turn up ! as of
course you all know that we are operating under different rules to 200 other
stations not including the commercials that is.
And in case anyone thinks (which you possibly are) oh, there he goes
again, how about we do a swap ??
you have our rules and
regulations for the next 3 years and well have yours
.. I bet you a
pound to a penny youll be ground down within 12 months
.. at least weve
lasted 3 years !
Just a thought thats all
the moral of the story is, that if we
didnt have to operate to this shambles then we would possibly have more
young people on board as wed be able to pay for some supervision
..
its difficult though when youre scraping along on your backsides 24/7
Ive been to see a potential supporter today
. Hes thinking about it at
present and doesnt understand why we cant do an advert
. I have tried
to explain to him about 15 times and wasted yet another two hours of my life
running through the reasons as why and why not regarding the debacle (the
one that Mr Hunt still hasnt given a reply to) but by the looks of it
to no avail
. So basically, thats another potential £100 quid a
month-ish gone down the swannee river.
The RESTRICTIONS do work
.. theyve done us out of about £100,000 quid !
if someone could explain what it has achieved though, apart from making many
voluntary people sad and unhappy then Id be very grateful
then again,
there could be a simple answer to this, perhaps the people who thought it up
are two pork pies short of a picnic ??
Just thought thats all so that people dont forget that some stations are
having a rough ride.
Regards
Nick well done Two Lochs /
and Uni Birmingham, keep up the good work

We have several hours a week produced and presented by young people ranging
generally from 10 years upwards.
Several of these (generally 13 yrs and up) create and present their
programmes independently just as adults do, and do not need the support of
an adult in producion terms. Some do it as part of their DofE Award service
components, others as part of schemes organized informally with local
primary schools, and others just as individuals.
However, we never permit under 18s to be in the station alone - there must
always be a 'responsible adult' present, but the adult is often there purely
for health, safety and security reasons and not taking part in the
production.

Hi all
Out of (academic) interest how many community radio stations only work with
young people (under 18s) when there is staff present to support? This might
be facilitating a programme or training. And, if not, how many have young
broadcasters who create and broadcast just as adults do.
I find this interesting because, during some research, I've found both
kinds. which is more common?
Cheers all
Ben
