Alan and All

I couldn't resist on this one.

Please read on as this is a very interesting and factual story.

Firstly, I have played football myself at a reasonable standard. I'm 51 now
but in my twenties I played in the Northern Premier league, I also played in
the old Cheshire league, Mid-Cheshire league and (North West Counties) I
have played against some teams who are now in the league divisions plus
older clubs in there Stoke, Stockport, Port Vale ... I've even played
against my beloved Silkmen (Macclesfield Town FC)
It was whilst playing in the North West Counties for one of the oldest
clubs in the Country (Glossop North End) that I myself competed in the FA
Vase ! I won't bore you, but firstly check the old league 1 from the 18
hundreds, Glossop are there with the likes of Preston / Blackburn / Stoke /
Everton / Villa etc and in 1987 we nearly had a Roy of the rovers story
when I hit the bar with a thunderous shot in the last minute against Colne
Dynamoes. They went straight down the end of the pitch and scored, beating
us 5-4 ! the story reads that basically they went on to
WIN the trophy at Wembley. On the day we should have beaten them .... who
knows, with a bit of luck it could have been us.

Anyway, that is neither bye the by ..... but this is ! since then
I have worked in radio etc and when I was working at the local commercial
station (Silk) I did the football commentary. I ain't there now as you
know and help run our Community Station (Canalside) it is no secret
that silk haven't exactly been friendly towards us ... in fact I would go so
far as to say that the whole malarky has been a shambles since day dot !

I digress ........ we er Canalside started covering our local
team Macclesfield Town ..... it was ALL voluntary, no one got paid, we had
no sponsors, no advertising and we were helped out by the silkmen supporters
trust ............ in otherwords WE WERE PROVIDING A SERVICE AND DOING
NO ONE ANY HARM WHATSOEVER ! we had a phone in after the game and
before the game one of the supporters would do a reportbefore the game.
There would be an update from one of ''the other members of the supporters
trust'' if a goal, went in.

Please bear in mind that I could get into the ground on a press pass
everyweek, but I don't ... I pay my £14 because I support the club. 8 other
members of the Footie Crew also paid so we worked out that we were putting
about £130 quid into the club and providing a good service leading through
the week, before the match, during the match and after .........

The programme was excellent as it was run by people who were passionate
about the club !

GUESS WHAT ?! SILK FM SPAT THEIR DUMMIES OUT, WENT RUNNING TO
TEACHER AND BUBBLED US TO IRN/SKY ............ absolutely pathetic, and once
again highlighting another shambles in these rules.

THEY SILK ......... knew very well of our restrictions and knew that
we couldn't raise the money to pay to cover the matches, so they kicked us
whilst we were down ....... we have nothing to fight back with.

I spoke to John Perkins who explained all the rules ..... ANOTHER MONEY
MAKING RACKET ON TOP OF THE PRS / PPL / MCPS AND ALL THE OTHER GARBAGE ...
the club themselves didn't have an issue with it, nor did the listeners or
supporters .... only silk.
IRN/Sky have reporters at Villa and City and Arsenal and Utd and we can take
live' feeds if we wish as we pay our community licence ...... but they don't
have a reporter at Macc Town (for obvious reasons) the club is 4 miles
down the road and we were prepared to do it ourselves.

So I said, well OK ..... you put a repoerter in there, he said NO .... so
I replied, well let us do it ourself then. We are not making money out of
it, in fact it is costing money ..... they again said NO

There was an almighty ''kick0off'' pardon the pun on the websites and
silk had to come crawling ..... they now let us do a quick report before the
game and one after but not during ..... we also have trouble getting the
Manager as they and the BBC hog him !

That is where we are at, at this present moment in time ...... yet another
balls-up in the life of NOT-FOR-PROFIT VOLUNTARY COMMUNITY RADIO ... unless
once again I have missed something !?

So:-

My question is this ........... bearing all of this in mind, what is the
relationship between you and the BBC, how did it come about, and how much
does it cost ??? furthermore, when I look around the Country I see
one or two harmonious relationships ..... not here, you'd think world war 3
was about to kick off ........ NONE OF OUR DOING MAY I SAY. If anyone from
commercial radio is reading this and thinks any of it is libel, then bring
it on and be a chancer ! it is all true, I can evidence it, and source
the letters, e-mails, meetings and conversations ......... we have got
nothing to hide and furthermore we ain't frightened of speaking our minds
and saying exactly what we think. I am sick to death of walking around on
eggshells and dealing with unreasonable money grabbing folk.

Yet another debacle hits the airwaves.

Well done to Alan and the gang anyway ....... and come on you Poole !

Regards

Still frustrated Nick

PRESS RELEASE – THE BAY 102.8
Word count: 326

Bay Radio kicks off Poole Town coverage in unique tie-up with BBC

Two of the most important matches in Poole Town football club’s
history will be broadcast live on local community radio station The
Bay 102.8 thanks to a unique tie-up with BBC Radio Solent.

Fans will be able to hear Radio Solent’s live commentary together with
live match analysis by reporters from The Bay 102.8 of both the FA
Vase Semi-final against Whitley Bay at Tatnam Park, Poole on March 26
and the second-leg game at Whitley Bay on April 2.

“If Poole Town wins the two matches on aggregate we will be playing in
the finals at Wembley,” said Poole Town’s Commercial Director Mark
Bumford. “These are the biggest matches in the recent history of the
club.

“We’ve had great support from Bay 102.8 for the last two seasons and
it’s absolutely fantastic that they are providing live commentary on
these important games with the co-operation of BBC Radio Solent.”

Alan Coote, Managing Director of The Bay 102.8, said: “We are very
excited about this tie-up. The commentary will be provided by a unique
collaboration between The Bay 102.8 and BBC Radio Solent. The Bay
102.8 team at the ground will provide additional analysis on the
matches.

“It’s almost unheard of for an independent station to work with the
BBC and use their fantastic resources,” added Mr Coote. “Our audience
will hear the BBC’s excellent live commentary on the games while our
team will provide pre-match, half-time and post-match analysis. We are
really pleased to be working with the BBC.”

The upcoming games may remind many older fans of the days when Poole
Town, established in 1880, not only reached the third round of the FA
Cup but staged memorable clashes against Manchester United, Watford,
Newport County and Queens Park Rangers.

“We have two big weekends ahead of us and tip-top live radio coverage
of both thanks to Bay 102.8 and BBC Radio Solent,” said Mr Bumford.
