Google's fourth annual Online Marketing Challenge will for the first
time be run to benefit nonprofits. The competition is open to
undergraduate or graduate students who are tasked with creating an
effective online marketing campaign in Google AdWords. More than
20,000 students from over 60 countries have competed in previous
challenges.

Student teams receive US$200 of free online advertising with Google
AdWords and then work with local businesses or NGOs to create
effective online marketing campaigns. They can choose any NGO to work
with, but NGOs are not of course required to participate.

The aim of course is to demonstrate the value and effectiveness of
Google AdWords for businesses and charities.

The global winners and their tutor will receive a trip to the Google
Headquarters in Mountain View, California to meet with the AdWords
team. Regional winners and their professor will win a trip to a
regional Google office. The successful nonprofit will win a $15,000
donation, with prizes of $10,000 and $5,000 for second and third
places respectively.

Students can not enter the challenge directly: applications must come
from their professor or tutor before 21 April 2011. After successful
registration, student teams have a period of three weeks in which to
plan and run their campaign. Their final report must be submitted by
17 June 2011.
