I support what is being suggested, Jacqui, perhaps official representation with the proposal below might encourage dialogue, this could be a win win for everyone if the fee is reasonable

Hi all

I think using the IRN fees as a reference point is a good idea for any negotiations (presuming GTN are amenable to them) – it would be a shame to lose the service when I imagine quite a few stations now have it quite integrated into their programmes.

Jaqui

We were warned of this from the beginning so it is not a huge surprise!

Do you have a feel for what cost the HA might accept for continuing? If it were in the order of, say, £100 per station they might get a total of £200 K if everyone took it. Or perhaps a similar price to IRN?

As they have to continue to provide the service for the BBC and commercials, any extra revenue is just a bonus to them - like selling the last few airline tickets at the last minute for £10 each!

Room for some negotiation?

Dear all

It is with great regret that we have to announce that the Traffic News deal we had with GTN has to end on 31st July. This is because the Highways Agency has refused to continue payment for the scheme for community radio.

We will be looking for alternative funding/ways that the service can recommence and would value your ideas as to where we might be able to get funding for the scheme.

We know that many of you have found it an invaluable addition to your broadcasting portfolios.

Best wishes

Jaqui
