Hi all
My name is Ben Kyneswood. I am a doctoral researcher at the University
of Birmingham. My research explores informal or incidental learning
amongst young volunteers. Using community radio as an example of the
voluntary sector I hope to examine the effect of this type of learning
on community programmes and the future of the young people in the
study.

I need to recruit young programme makers willing to keep blogs for a
four week period. They would be asked to blog on how they came about
the content of their programmes, whether anything they broadcast
changes because of something they might have seen, read or heard. This
might just be a way of phrasing a question in interview, or a
willingness to explore issues in a different way.

Overall, I hope to show whether just by being involved in volunteering
and community radio, young people can learn for themselves and develop
some critical awareness of life. As you may feel at the moment,
learning is very standardized and there's not much room, or funding,
for providing the space, time and opportunity to explore things for
yourself and with your friends. Any evidence of this may help the
sector in the long run.

I'd appreciate any stations that feel they might have a group of four
programme makers willing to partake. As ever with research, privacy,
anonymity and safety are paramount, and costs incurred would be
defrayed.

Regards
Ben
