Dear All

I haven't read any of the reports and to be honest all of this is out of my
remit and off my radar however, as I have previously said, I think
Mr Hunt & Co need to sort out community radio first before they go piddling
around with local TV. I saw him yesterday on TV and he appeared to me to be
in some kind of fantasy-land ??

By the way ........ I tuned in to our local commercial station the other day
for the first time in 12 months ...... I only listened for about 15 minutes
just to get a feel for the advertising ........... you guys need to bear in
mind that this is the station (along with others) who went whinging to the
Government about restrictions ...... in the time that I was listening, they
about 3 local adverts, 8 regional adverts and 5 national adverts and yet we
dare not even give a phone number out on air for our local two-bob-bit
butcher !! er ?? have I missed something ? just a
minute, let me pinch myself to see whether I'm dreaming or not !

Nope --------- ! not dreaming .... it IS real !

I mention this as I have just received the updated version of B-DX Club's
.... all about UK and Irish Radio perhaps you guys have to ??

There seems to be another character (don't know him) the editor 'a Mr
Dave Kenny' who appears to be clearly confused with a head full of
mis-information, falsehoods & magic.

I quote his opening statement ''times are hard for commercial radio at
the moment, the recession has hit advertising revenue and this has lead to
the closure of several stations with many other stations having to merge
with neibouring services in order to maintain their viability and/or use
automation etc etc IN CONTRAST community radio is THRIVING etc etc
etc'' is this chap real ??

1) Commercial Stations will merge or not merge dependent on how much money
they can MAKE and not how much money they are supposedly losing
2) Community Radio is NOT thriving, unless in the 21st century the word
thriving has changed its meaning to be the opposite .... a little bit like
the word ''wicked'' when I was a kid, wicked meant exactly what it
says on the can ...... wicked .......... now with a lot of the youngsters it
means the opposite ! if you catch my drift.

Finally .... Mr Kenny's tekky guys have got Canalside Radio down as
broadcasting on 48 watts ..... hey .... the chance would be a fine thing
.... our transmitter would possibly ''blow-up'' if we turned it to 48 watts.

Anyway ....... enough whinging for today ...... but can't you see why we get
frustrated ? Oh by the way ...... Canalside is now down to
£4,535.26 in the Bank ....and this EVERYTHING ...... we are on our arses !

thriving ?????? pull the other one !

Regards

Nick
