That is a very good point and one that obviously has appeared on our radar
. However, correct me Im wrong
. We are Community Radio and we do
things that are up and beyond the call of duty ?! I do
programmes, fill in, co-ordinate but chiefly train people and run activities
we have lots of youngsters here at the moment with 8 of em actually
on-air
.. all under 16 years old. It sometimes means that Im in here at
7:30am and leave at 11pm in order that I can get my other work done.
Obviously we have a team but some are not massively flexible. Im paid for
forty hours (not a kings ransom) and do another 30 odd voluntary
. I
aint moaning about that, I can live with it and love it
but Ill be
damned if Im putting up with this crap much longer
something is going to have to happen one way or another.
Do we have the names of the people who were sat around the table when this
lot went through parliament ?? perhaps we can post them on the board
and then get in touch with each of them one by one
.
By us doing what is morally right
. Promoting things, helping the
community, providing the so called Big Society, being charitable, being
philanthropic, being benevolent and generally being good little chappies
will shine through in the end
.. trust me I KNOW
been there, done it, worn the T-Shirt coz when the proverbial
does hit the fan and it will soon
.. as I have said, I have
done my homework and the man in the nice suit and silly wig may not
necessarily drop on the side of the DCMS
there is such a thing in Law
as unreasonable behaviour we have everything logged
and the fact that we have kept our noses absolutely clean whilst at the same
time arguing the toss for 4 years is to be commended.
Keep your eyes open
. Its like waiting for the next Harry Potter
enstalment !
By the way
. I havent spotted any replys regarding the payment malarky
have some gone silent ?
Regards
Nick

why not say no to airing it based on the fact that it might be seen as a
"advert" and in breach of your license.

This situation a really odd situation. The Council support us (sponsor ??
dunno) these words are very delicate when dealing with Ofcom and
the DCMS
.. they say that we are not permitted to take (sponsorship / ads
/ programme sponsorship in return for £ $ whatever?)
..
however, as we have pointed out who in the right frame of mind certainly
in this economic climate is going to give you something for nothing?
GET REAL FOR GODS SAKE !
Whilst all this is rumbling on we feel that we are in a hopeless situation
What do we do
.. ?? the Council give us money to run
training, to run lots and lots of press releases and to run promotions, be
them for Central Government or Local Government
So
.. let us understand this :- The government get onto
Councils to promote the census
.. this remember is the same census that WE
(Community Radio) were ignored by three weeks ago and Officials /
MPs expected us to promote it for nowt
is this the Big Society ?
possibly
. However, it contradicts the rules that they already have in
place
we are or are we not ?? permitted to advertise promote
things ----- in return for on-air £ lolly £ ?
Hang on a minute
Ill just pinch myself to see if Im dreaming
.
Nope .. not dreaming .. its real and its a calamity.
Do we run it?, dont we run it?, are we breaking the law?, are we not?, is
it one rule for one thing? and different rules for others?, is it lets move
the goalpost for just a few months? Is it whatever when it
suits? I dont recall the Government having a dig
when we were promoting the digital switchover for peanuts.
What a load of garbage !
Anyway, the wheels are in motion now
.. well go it alone (Mr
Rutley/Mr Osbourne/ Mrs Bruce) keep your eyes open for me
being flogged at the Tower of London or having afternoon tea with Mr Cameron
and the Queen.
By the way
we are running it ! hopefully through this
column Ofcom will see it and fine us ! yellow card and all that jazz
technically we are breaking the law
running something indirectly for the
government
. At least this will bring it to a head.
If we dont get hauled over the cobbles then are we take it that we can have
a free for all or if we do
. Is it complete contradiction as it is the
Government who have asked the Council to ask us !!
Bizarre isnt it?
Regards
Nick

Dear All
Just a point worth noting
.. do you remember two weeks ago when I was
spouting off about the census
.. ?! well er
--- it looks as if Mr Niklas Wrighticus (Moi) has got egg on his face
!
We have been sent some audio from Cheshire East Council
.. do you
remember me enlightening you that we got a grant for £6,900 ?? it
appears as if my forecast was correct
. I knew this was going to happen
drat, drat and double drat !
We (Community Radio Brotherhood UK) got insulted three weeks ago when we
didnt even Manage to achieve an afterthought status let alone get a bit
of funding, and Jaqui has now had to write to the DCMS and I said
. Big Society on this one was a no way Jose
well it looks like Im going to have to put it in my pipe and smoke it !
eat humble pie and play out the audio as of tomorrow.
Damned if we do / Damned if we dont
. It seems to be one pickle
after another
.. if you add the fact that there is a small discrepency on
our wording of a couple of philanthropic thankyous then you notice
that once again all the main issues and main arguments come back to the
restrictions. AGAIN
Just to let you all know that there hopefully will be a meeting with David
Rutley / George Osbourne / Fiona Bruce very soon
.. they are out local
MPs (all Conservatives of course) my first observation
will be to point out the Big Society has now been launched and that in my
view Community Radio is one of the forerunners in delivering exactly what
they are talking about
after all, weve had plenty of practice, weve
been doing it for the last 7 years
.
I shall point out to them that I
have an open-mind on the subject
however, my first question will
be Why are rules and regulations in place that destroy the
very people who are out there delivering what you want them to deliver ?
in this particular maths lesson weve got 3 + 3 = 12 ????
They may say to me
. Well if you have done it for seven years why change it
?? whats the problem ?? I will answer yes but weve run out
of steam and the wheels have now come off the cart, weve been almost
flogged to death
. Its hard work you know
It clearly doesnt make sense
in fact it has NEVER made any sense and
since Mr Cameron went on his mission (Im glad he has actually) it has
highlighted what a total and utter fiasco and balls-up we have been
wallowing in for the past 4 years. Obviously some of you havent had it too
bad
.. but in our case, it really has been a nightmare.
Anyway, I will keep you posted
. But, be warned, the talking, the
pleading, the reasoning, the bottom licking will have to stop if these
characters cant see any sense (re-DCMS)
. There will be no options left
open. We simply cannot run on thin air and secondly, we wont fall over
without a fight
.. and I mean a fight ---- not handbags at ten paces.
Let us hope that common sense prevails and then we can deliver the goods
without anyone coming to harm
. Community Radio / Commercial Radio / BBC
all living together on our keyboards in perfect harmony (full stops n all)
. wasnt that a Stevie Wonder / Paul Mccartney
collaboration ??
(Ebony and Ivory) thats how it should be.
Regards
Nick
