Wednesday August 10th Swansea Castle Square, Noon-2pm
On Wednesday August 10th, Free cake will be handed out in Castle square,
Swansea to promote the launch of an online television channel for the
City. The Big Screen situated in the square will broadcast a selection of
videos from the new channel.

Swansea Telly is an exciting online platform for videos made by the people
of Swansea. More than 60 video have already been produced by first time
video makers. The project is part of a digital inclusion project is
supported by Communities 2.0 – the Welsh Government initiative that is
helping communities and small enterprises to make the most of the
internet.

Video stories range from a mass skinny dip on Gower to a comedy drama from
Bonymaen. Using just a mobile video phone, one person recorded the Swansea
City AFC victory parade for Swansea Telly.

Swansea Telly spokesperson Paul O'Connor said:

'Our team will hand out free cakes to show that being digitally included
is as easy as following a cake recipe. Our workshops across the city have
shown that nearly 100 people with no previous experience of using digital
media have successfully made a video which is now being watched by
friends, family and beyond.'

Swansea Telly is a collaboration of four digital video organisations and
one digital photography group from across Swansea. Communities 2.0 is
delivered by five partner organisations – the Wales Co-operative Centre,
the Novas Scarman Group, Pembrokeshire Association of  Voluntary Services,
Carmarthenshire County Council and the George Ewart Evans Centre for
Storytelling (University of Glamorgan). Much of the funding for
Communities 2.0 has come from the European Regional Development Fund.

The Swansea Telly project involves working with various minority groups in
Swansea, training them in video-making and enabling them to create short
digital films to be uploaded onto the internet channel. The project is
tackling digital exclusion faced by older people, the recently unemployed
and social housing tenants.

After the launch in Castle Square, Swansea Telly will move to the
Waterfront Museum from August 11-14th for people who want hands-on
experience of the new online TV channel for the City.  Swansea Telly can
be watched for free on http://www.swanseatelly.org/
