Liverpool Hope University has partnered with the BBC to launch a new
Postgraduate Diploma in Radio and Online Journalism.

They hope to address the under-representation of some groups, such as
radio enthusiasts with disabilities, within commercial and public
service radio.

Designed in collaboration with BBC Radio Merseyside and supported by
radio professionals across the Northwest this new postgraduate diploma
will provide students with the essential skills required to be a radio
journalist in the 21st century.
Study Details / Module Information

With state of the art facilities, tuition from industry
experts/practitioners and access to the region’s key broadcasters,
graduates from this programme will enter the labour market equipped
with the conceptual, theoretical and practical knowledge required by
the sector.

During the course students will become fully conversant with:

    * industry standard newsgathering software Burli, ENPS and IRN
    * the RCS Master Control digital playout system
    * news bulletin production and presentation
    * audio recording and editing with Marantz Solid State recorders
and Adobe Audition
    * web/cross-platform journalism production (or ‘360 delivery’)
incorporating podcasting, downloads, web-alerts, video
streaming/pieces to camera, blogging and meta-data
    * package production
    * Outside Broadcast and location reports
    * editorial experience (running a newsroom)
    * broadcast law (contempt and defamation)
    * political administration (local/central government and EU)
    * ‘Producer Guidelines’/’Editorial Policy’
    * audience measurement (RAJAR) & listener/user behaviour

Students will also receive:

    * voice & presentation training
    * 15 days work experience at the BBC and/or commercial radio
    * continuous involvement in the newsroom at Liverpool’s only
full-time university radio station, Radio Hope.
