School of Everything seeks groups, societies and associations

The School of Everything is a website that helps you learn whatever,
whenever and wherever you want. From biology to beekeeping, history to
hula hoping – you don't need to go to the end of the earth to learn what
you want – it will help you find teachers and lessons near you.

One new development to the School of Everything is that it is expanding
the idea of tutors and learners to include self organised groups, clubs,
societies, associations, and along with other organisations like local
authorities, WEA, U3A – to include the voluntary, community and
statutory sectors along with the business community.

Learning isn’t just about one person teaching and others taking it all
in. Very often, it’s a shared experience, in a group of people who are
learning from and teaching one another at the same time. Often these
groups don’t have, and wouldn’t want, an instructor. Poetry groups, for
example, work because all members are valued equally as constructive
critics of each other’s work; everyone learns from and mentors each
other. If you join a photographic society, you don’t expect to be
‘taught’ photography, though you do expect to benefit directly from
other members’ greater expertise.

Shared learning can be a very powerful thing. It’s also a good place to
go when you’re outgrowing your initial instructor-led learning, and want
to go further, perhaps in a new direction. Joining a group keeps you in
the learning loop, growing your knowledge in a supportive, informed
environment. Group learning can also be the mid-stage between being an
instructed learner and feeling confident enough to join the instructors
and start inspiring others.
