The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced that from Spring 2010, at
least £100 million a year will be spent across England over the next
five years as part of an improved Reaching Communities programme.

There will be changes to the application and assessment process for
smaller amounts up to £40,000, making the whole process simpler. There
will also be a two-stage process for applications for larger amounts
of up to £500,000. BIG has also said more useful feedback will be
available on unsuccessful applications.

A capital programme for community buildings is also expected in the
Autumn for medium sized refurbishments, new builds or extensions to
community centres, village halls or other community used buildings.

The changes are in response to the BIG consultation, undertaken last year.

The Reaching Communities programme provides grants to help improve
local communities and the lives of people most in need.
