I hope you are enjoying your holidays.

I didn't get much of a break, but enjoyed the summer season, well what little we had of it. 

Well the month of August is going to be a bit serious as we are back to work and school. Moreover the holy month of Ramadan is starting from 11th august. There are a whole host of happenings this month such as concerts and dinners. 

Keep tuned into your no.1 Asian Radio station to keep updated with all the latest that is happening in Glasgow.

Awaz Fm Receive The MBE Award

AwazFm received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the equivalent of an MBE.

At a ceremony in the City Chambers, Lord Provost Bob Winter will present staff with a commemorative crystal obelisk and a certificate signed by the Queen.
He said: "The work of the volunteers at Awaz FM really impressed me and they are indeed deserving winners of the award.

"It really is refreshing to visit and witness the energy and commitment of everyone involved in this venture connecting with the Asian community through the airwaves."
Ali Malik, director of Awaz FM, said "We are delighted and honoured to be receiving such an award. Obviously it is the highest award any voluntary organisation can achieve.

"Awaz FM has been broadcasting to Glasgow’s Asian communities for eight years and it has been hard work.

"However, recognition like this makes it all worthwhile and lets us know we really are doing something right and that we are making a difference."

The station broadcasts in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Paharhi and Swahili providing entertainment, local and national news, and community information.
It also covers particular faiths including Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Islam.

Awaz FM works with many organisations including Glasgow City Council, Greater Glasgow Health Board Strathclyde Police and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue.

The prophet Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wasallam said that a person who builds a Masjid for the sake of Allah Ta’ala, Allah Ta’ala will in return build a house for him in Jannah.

Jamia islamia Glasgow on tantallon rd, are hosting a fundraising charity dinner on Saturday 7th August,
to raise funds to help build an extension for it’s prayer hall. Jamia Islamia urgently need to raise £150,000.
This event will take place at the Glasgow Central mosque at 7pm

Ramadhan

The blessed month of ramadan is upon us. It is the duty of all muslims to utilise this month to submit themselves to will of Allah. It is a time to reflect on the life that has been lived and ask for forgiveness of sins and pray for guidance.

Awaz Fm will be broadcasting special Sehri and Iftari Programmes throughtout the whole of this month.

Also remember that this is a time for giving Zakat and remembering those who are less fortunate than yourselves.

Awaz FM will again be covering Ramadhan and will continue with the excellent programs of Iftarhi and Sehri.

Local Imam Faroghul Ul Qadri (Masjid Khizra) will continue to deliver his daily bayaan (lecture) followed by the popular Q&A delivered in Urdu.
This year’s Iftarhi program will be hosted by:
Monday – Saif 
Tuesday – Farrah
Wednesday – Raheem
Thursday – Rahat
Friday – Farrah

The weekend Iftarhi programs will be in English and will include lectures and reminders with the popular Kids On-Air and is hosted by:

World Pipe Band Championships

The World Pipe Band Championships is the major event in the piping world and the competition culminates in a spectacular March Past of all competitors. Typically, over 5,000 musicians (230 bands) take part from all over the world, including Canada, USA, Australia, Oman and Tokyo.

The World Pipe Band Championships will return to its heartland, in Glasgow
Green on 14th August 2010. Expect exciting competition across all Grades,
in the fiercely contested Drum Major contest as well as Highland Dancing and Glasgow World Highland Games Championships! Worthy champions will be crowned in all Grades and also in the Drum Major contests, so don't miss your chance to cheer the pipe bands on in their bid for glory!

To top it off we have a great family programme lined up with a family pass (2 adults and 3 children) just £20.
